Parents’ Association

Letter from the Parents' Association

Hello Parents / Guardians

At St. Dominic’s we have an active Parent Association. We work on behalf of parents / guardians in partnership with the school principal, staff and board of management to build close links between the school and home. Our aim is to achieve the best possible educational experience for our daughters. Research shows that the involvement of parents / guardians has a positive effect on the achievements of students in school.

As a parent / guardian of a student you are automatically a member of the Parents Association. We always welcome input from parents / guardians and there is an open invite to you to take a further step and become part of our Committee.

We meet once a month during school term time (usually on a Tuesday evening for one hour at 7.30pm (meetings are alternated between in person and via zoom) and we work in partnership on a range of matters including offering support on various matters ranging from policy development through to extracurricular activities, always with the shared objective between us as parents / guardians and the school as educators to make the 6 years our daughters attend the school the best experience as possible to enable our girls to reach their potential.

In addition, we arrange various fundraising initiatives during the school year so that we can provide financial support to the school. This is to enable the school to invest in enhancing our daughters schooling experience that otherwise the school could not afford to do. In recent years through fundraising we have provided funding for blinds for classrooms, subsidised buses for sports matches, bought benches for the courtyard, installed a demonstration kitchen, purchased books for the library and for various departments, paid for mental health workshops and most recently we contributed towards the colourful school lockers that the girls use to store their books and which very much brighten the corridors. We also arrange an annual guest speaker for parents on topical parenting issues.

We can’t do all this without support from parents – if you are interested in getting involved, and / or have ideas or questions then please get in touch. You can contact us via email at info@stdominics.ie.

Parents' Association Summer Meeting

In the final week of term the Parents’ Association held their last meeting of 2023/24. There were presentations and celebrations as we said goodbye to Irene, Barbara, Liz and Amanda, who are retiring after many years of service to St Dominic’s College. Thanks for all the hard work and fun ladies! We will welcome new members and look forward to continuing the great work and collaboration in the next academic year.

Easter Raffle - 22nd March

The Easter Raffle was held on Friday March 22nd, the last day before the Easter Holidays. Congratulations to all the lucky winners and thank you to all who bought tickets to support the important work of the Parents’ Association.

Clothes Pod - 23rd and 24th April

Put the date in your diary for all your unwanted clothing. This fundraiser helps the Parent’s Association turn the clothes to cash.

John B. Keane's 'The Field', January 2024

On Wednesday, January 24th this year, we hosted Draíocht Drama Group’s production of John B Keane’s ‘The Field’.  It was a great night of theatre in the always gorgeous St. Patrick’s Hall.  This was our second hosting of Draíocht Drama Group and we hope it will be an annual event.  It’s a lovely way to see inside where your daughter goes to school.

Carol Service, December 2023

This year’s Christmas Carol Service hit the right notes again. A sellout crowd filled the Chapel and were treated to mince pies and refreshments in the school library afterwards.  Look out for tickets for next year!

Parents' Association Sponsored Walk September 2023

Our annual Parents’ Association Sponsored Walk was a great success thanks to the commitment, organisation and most of all school spirit shown by parents, students and teachers. Once again we raised a great sum which will go towards enhancing the school experience of the students.
