2023 - Peer to Peer Programme
In 2023 four TY students, Setarah, Ashley, Allison and Lily, participated in a drugs awareness programme in Finglas. They spent 10 weeks learning about the effects of drugs and alcohol and then created a lesson to teach first year students about what they had learned on the programme. Below you can see our students being interviewed about the programme. The Peer to Peer programme is just one exampel of the many enriching and hands on learning experiences open to students who do Transition Year.

Transition Year: update May 2023
Four TY students, Setarah, Ashley, Allison and Lily, participated in a drugs awareness programme in Finglas. They learned about the uses and effects of drugs and alcohol. They spent 10 weeks learning and gathering information. The instructor, Sarah, taught them all they should know. In the last week of the Peer2Peer programme, Sarah had a cameraman to film all their efforts and progress. The participants also had a pizza party, which they really enjoyed. Then they worked on a PowerPoint presentation to teach the first year students about everything that they had learned in the programme. The teaching took place in six different first year classes over the course of two weeks. The first year students enjoyed the lessons greatly as they were informative but fun. The four students had their graduation on May 17, 2023. A great big thank you to Sarah for all the hard work she put into this programme.

Transition Year: update September 2021-2022
Transition Year 2021-2022 has got off to a flying start with the annual trip to Carlingford Adventure Centre. Our students went kayaking, completed challenges in Skypark and defended themselves in the Laser Combat. TY students had the opportunity to bond and now look forward to a year filled with many more rewarding experiences.
Transition Year: update September 2019
Well, Transition Year 2019 has taken off! Our TY students have started to settle down to the opportunities and challenges of a very different educational experience. On Friday 23rd August they were introduced to the year, signing their Commitment to Work page and learning about their new subjects and modules. This year, as well as continuing with most of our very successful modules from last year eg Sport & Recreation, Chinese and Russian, we are also involved in exciting new modules eg Philosophy and Public Speaking!
The students are now looking forward to their trip to the Carlingford Adventure Centre on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th Sept with great anticipation. Their rain gear and wellies are being packed (as well as the suncream!) so that they arrive on time at 8.15 for early assembly. The trip to Carlingford helps students bond, to get to know each other, gaining insight into group tasks and activities, and working together to solve challenges.
A week after Carlingford, all TY students head to Co. Carlow, to the Ploughing Championships. What an action-packed year – we are only in September!!
