Every year ESBI runs a TY Women in Engineering Programme linked with our school. The Programme is designed to give female transition year students a chance to see what great opportunities there are in choosing Engineering as a career. This is done through a series of site visits, engineering challenges and meeting some of the Engineers in ESBI.
Every year 2 places are available for St Dominic’s on the Women in Engineering Programme. We would like to remind you that the students who benefit from the programme are those who have an interest in pursuing a Maths/Science based career such as Engineering or an honours Maths/Science grade in Junior Cert as the programme is designed with this in mind. Students who do not have a maths based career interest would not find the programme as interesting or challenging. Also as there is so much work put into the programme by ESBI and its staff that it makes all the difference to the presenters and site staff when the students are genuinely interested in Engineering as a possible career choice.
Some of the events that may be organised during this week are a visit to Turlough Hill Power Station in Wicklow which is an amazing and unique experience as the power station is located in the middle of a mountain. There may also be a trip to Engineers Ireland organised which includes some engineering challenges and competitions, so it should be a very exciting week for the participants
The two lucky participants then have an opportunity to talk to the other students to promote Engineering as a career choice and also summarise the Women in Engineering week.
