The Young Social Innovators Programme promotes ‘The practice of using creativity to develop solutions which improve the wellbeing of people and society’.
Since early November 4Y and Miss Hughes, have been taking part in the YSI programme. 4Y chose wellbeing as the topic they were interested in improving within our school community. This is the first time it has been completed at St. Dominic’s College.
They looked towards the wellbeing of their fellow students especially during the period of online learning and of lockdown. They concluded that many may be struggling to stay motivated and wanted to create something which could contribute towards promoting wellbeing in some way.
With the slogan #BEHINDYOURMIND, they decided to put together a booklet which promotes wellbeing during lockdown in an interactive, creative and fun way. 4Y were innovative with their ideas for this booklet and made it interactive. The #BEHINDYOURMIND booklet is filled with activities created by students for students.
At the beginning of May each member of 4Y were presented with a certificate of recognition as a young social innovator 2021 as well as a YSI advocate badge.
In April they participated in YSI Speak Out Virtual Tour ‘A presentation by young social innovators who advocate on a social issue to inform and influence others’. They created a two-minute video which highlighted the social issues they chose to tackle, why others should care about it and different aspects of their project.
The YSI Speak Out Tour digital platform hosted hundreds of team stories from all over Ireland. We were able to watch the Speak Outs submitted by YSI teams taking part all over Ireland! 4Y completed case studies on various projects based on topic, theme and geographical location.
