Our St. Dominic’s College NASA/NSS space settlement design team Alison Koci, Alecia Dibu, Lama Elgobashy and Nia Neju and their team mentors Ms.Healy and Ms.Dockery visited the Vatican Observatory “Specola Vaticana”, Castel Gandolfo, on 7th December.
The trip was initiated after a Zoom meeting about asteroid composition with Br. Guy Consolmagno SJ, physicist and director of the Vatican Observatory.
We would especially like to thank the Dominican sisters, who inspired and encouraged us to visit the Observatory and who very kindly supported our trip to Rome and the Vatican City.
The team engaged in stargazing and were joined by three teachers and five students from St. Flannans in Ennis, who had previously collaborated with them. The visit also included an early morning tour of the Vatican Museum and we received a blessing from Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square.
Thank you to the Vatican Observatory for making this space-related educational trip an out of this world experience!
