Transition Year – Business Department

The Transition Year Mini-company subject is a year long course that consists of four modules:

  1. Mini-company
  2. Business
  3. Accounting
  4. Economics

All modules are designed so that students who did not take Business Studies for the Junior Certificate can gain an insight into Business subjects before deciding on their subject choices for the Leaving Certificate, and to enable those who did take Business Studies for the Junior Certificate, apply their knowledge and skills they have learned while also gaining an insight into Business at Leaving Certificate level.

Mini-company

Our Mini-company module runs from September to December and is an incredibly exciting and rewarding programme which provides students with the opportunity to set up and run their own enterprises. Students will experience everything from creating business ideas to developing marketing plans, financial strategies, production processes and everything in between. Each business has the opportunity to showcase  and sell their product or service to staff, students and visitors during our annual Trade Fair. Judges are brought in and the winning Transition Year business progresses to the Student Enterprise Awards held in Croke Park. Students are encouraged to use the summer after their Junior Certificate to brainstorm possible enterprises that they would be interested in setting up for their minicompany module.

Business/Accounting/Economics

These three modules run in rotation blocks from January-June, giving each student an opportunity to experience the subject contents at Leaving Certificate level.
